Our Homes and Care Homes

Supported sheltered houses

We offer supported sheltered housing in around 700 locations around the UK. Each Abbeyfield house gives preference to older people drawn from its local community, or who have local connections.

Our supported sheltered houses are either purpose built or are adapted existing buildings furbished with specialist facilities, such as call alarm systems, lifts and assisted baths. Many of our houses also have additional aids to make life easier for frailer residents.

A typical Abbeyfield house accommodates eight to 12 people. Most of our houses offer rooms with en suite facilities. Residents can personalise their own rooms with their own furniture and other treasured possessions.

A professional manager supervises each house to ensure that every resident enjoys nutritious cooked meals a day and receives the level of support they require. Residents needing additional assistance can arrange visiting services such as home help, a care assistant or chiropodist.

Care homes

Our 80 care homes allow residents to remain 'at home' while receiving high levels of care within specially designed houses. Specialist staff and care assistants are on call 24 hours a day. Qualified staff are able to dispense medicines to residents under the direction of GPs and district nurses. All residents have a specific care plan that is typically developed and monitored by a GP. Nursing care is only provided in our registered nursing homes, but local community nursing services support our high-dependency residents.

My only regret is that we didn't find Abbeyfield sooner! I don't think I've ever come accross such a happy house.
